Baseball Recap: Pinnacle Has No Trouble Against Wendover

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Pinnacle and Wendover, and Pinnacle kept the tradition alive. The Panthers blew past the Wildcats 15-5 on Friday. The Panthers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Joey Howell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Brody Howell was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs he has posted since back in August of 2024. Another player making a difference was Domonick Hiutt, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Pinnacle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

The win got Pinnacle back to even at 2-2.

Coming up, Pinnacle will square off against Bryce Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. As for Wendover, they will challenge Intermountain Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
