Baseball Recap: Copper Canyon Find Success

Copper Canyon proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 15) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Independence Patriots, sneaking past 6-5. The Aztecs haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Emmanuel Manjarrez Beltran was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anthony Acosta Livas, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Jael Sosa, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Copper Canyon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 5-3-1. As for Independence, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5-1.

Copper Canyon has already played their next match, a 10-0 loss against Apollo on the 28th. Independence has also already played their next contest (against Washington), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
