Basketball Recap: Kendrick Comes Up Short

Kendrick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 23rd straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by the Hardaway Hawks 89-5. While losing is never fun, the Cherokees can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 517th, while the Hawks are ranked 57th).

Hardaway's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mikayla Johnson, who went 11 for 20 to rack up 25 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Akilah Shelton, who went 8 of 16 on her way to 16 points along with seven boards and five blocks.

Kendrick's defeat dropped their record down to 0-21. As for Hardaway, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

Kendrick didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 81-6 loss against Carver on the 8th. As for Hardaway, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-34 victory against Spencer on the 8th.
