Baseball Recap: Chief Sealth Comes Up Short

Chief Sealth fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Garfield on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 5-4. The Seahawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Sam Popelka was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Teo Perala was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That home run was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Seth Clark, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Chief Sealth's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-5. As for Garfield, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6.

Chief Sealth wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 9-8 victory against Nathan Hale on the 11th. As for Garfield, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-1 loss against Eastside Catholic on the 11th.
