Volleyball Recap: Mayfield Wildcats vs. Riverside Beavers
If Mayfield was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of North on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats lost 3-0 to the Riverside Beavers on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Beavers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.
The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-13.
TAYLOR SIMMONS paced Mayfield's offense, picking up nine kills. SIMMONS got some help from ANNABEL ROBERTS and her 12 assists. VIVIAN GERBASI controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
Riverside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marlee Pettine led the charge by getting 14 digs and five assists. That's the most assists Pettine has posted since back in September. Rylee Kish was another key player, getting ten digs.
Mayfield's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Riverside, they pushed their record up to 16-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road.
Coming up, Mayfield will head out to challenge Chardon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Hilltoppers at the right time seeing as the Hilltoppers are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Riverside, they will welcome North at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
