The Oakdale Mustangs will take on the Placer Hillmen at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Oakdale beats Placer with six runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Mustangs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over East Union last Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Emily Thomasson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Reese Donaldson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and one double. Another player making a difference was Briley Everett, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Placer). They walked away with a 13-8 victory over Wheatland on Tuesday.
The team relied heavily on Paige Denniston, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Carly Rice, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Placer kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Oakdale's win bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Placer, their victory bumped their record up to 8-11.
