Basketball Game Preview: Geffen Academy Bruins vs. California Academy of Math & Science Coyotes

The Geffen Academy Bruins will head out on the road to face off against the California Academy of Math & Science Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Geffen Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine contests -- so hopefully California Academy of Math & Science likes a good challenge.

Geffen Academy is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Vistamar just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 63-60. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bruins have suffered since December 6, 2023.

Geffen Academy might have lost, but man, Nathan M was a machine: he dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 boards. The game was M's sixth in a row with at least ten points.

Meanwhile, California Academy of Math & Science got the win against Lennox Academy on Friday by a conclusive 55-33. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Coyotes.

California Academy of Math & Science has also been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points per game. As for Geffen Academy, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-4.

Geffen Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against California Academy of Math & Science in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, sneaking past 50-47.
