Baseball Game Preview: James Monroe Yellow Jackets vs. Westmoreland Eagles

The James Monroe Yellow Jackets are taking a road trip to take on the Westmoreland Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. James Monroe will be strutting in after a victory while Westmoreland will be coming in after a defeat.

James Monroe will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Chancellor, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Yellow Jackets were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Chargers on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Yellow Jackets as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Devin Breeden was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season.

In other batting news, James Monroe got a massive performance out of Jude Hardy, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Ian Davis, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4.

James Monroe kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Westmoreland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 11-1 to Colonial Beach, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

James Monroe's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-4. As for Westmoreland, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
