Volleyball Game Preview: Lehi Pioneers vs. Westlake Thunder

Lehi is 0-3 against Westlake since March of 2024 but things could change on Tuesday. The Pioneers will take on the Thunder at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lehi is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Pleasant Grove, who was ranked 12th at the time (Lehi was ranked fifth). The Pioneers walked away with a 3-1 win over the Vikings on Thursday.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18.

Westlake had won five straight games and Talon Schank did his part to make it six on Thursday. The Thunder put the hurt on American Fork with a sharp 3-0 victory with plenty of help from Schank, who had 16 digs and one assist. He is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had ten or more in each of the last ten games he's played.

One reason for the win was Westlake's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The match finished with set scores of 26-24, 25-23, 25-14.

Lehi's record is now 13-3. As for Westlake, they pushed their record up to 16-5 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's game: Lehi hasn't let much over the net this season, having averaged 5.2 blocks per game. It's a different story for Westlake, though, as they've been averaging only 1.9 blocks. Given Lehi's sizable advantage in that area, the Thunder will need to find a way to close that gap.
