Softball Recap: Six Straight Home Wins for Bedford North Lawrence

Bedford North Lawrence entered their tilt with Orleans on Monday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Bulldogs.

Macee Nicholson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Tori Nikirk was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kendall Graves, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

Bedford North Lawrence's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Orleans, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-3.

Bedford North Lawrence and Orleans should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Stars (ranked 35th) will meet Barr-Reeve (ranked 144th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Orleans will square off against Springs Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (71 vs. 211).
