Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon-Enola Warhawks vs. Atkins Red Devils

The Mt. Vernon-Enola Warhawks will square off against the Atkins Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Vernon-Enola has given up an average of 9.7 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Baptist Prep hit Mt. Vernon-Enola with a four-run second inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warhawks came up short against the Eagles, falling 11-5.

Tucker Henry was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Atkins had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They had just enough and edged out Glen Rose 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Red Devils have posted since April 5, 2024.

Jaxson Koenigseder made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ethan Linboom was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Atkins' win bumped their record up to 4-12. As for Mt. Vernon-Enola, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.
