Basketball Game Preview: Willsboro Central Warriors vs. Boquet Valley Griffins

The Willsboro Central Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the Boquet Valley Griffins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Willsboro Central has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with 13 straight losses, while Boquet Valley will come in with three straight victories.

Willsboro Central is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They came up short against Keene Central last Tuesday, falling 54-33. The Warriors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-5.

Meanwhile, everything went Boquet Valley's way against Chazy on Tuesday as Boquet Valley made off with a 66-44 win. The Griffins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Willsboro Central better keep an eye on Carson Leibeck. He was instrumental in Boquet Valley's win, going 13 for 25 on his way to 37 points and six rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Leibeck has scored at least a third of Boquet Valley's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Colba Furman, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Boquet Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive games.

Boquet Valley is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points per game. As for Willsboro Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Willsboro Central was dealt a bruising 63-25 loss at the hands of Boquet Valley in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Leibeck, who went 10 of 24 on his way to 23 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.
