Basketball Recap: Coventry Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Coventry came into Tuesday's match having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Ravenna Ravens 43-41. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 39-32 back in January.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Coventry to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madalyn Matheney, who went 7 for 13 en route to 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Those 15 points gave Matheney a new career-high. Kayla Munn was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

Coventry was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Coventry's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-13. As for Ravenna, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 14 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

Coventry and Ravenna could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. Coventry will challenge Norton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday down 360 places (619 vs. 259). Coventry is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. Similarly, Ravenna (ranked 627th) will meet Field (ranked 224th) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
