Basketball Recap: Burroughs Takes a Loss

Burroughs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 65-61 heartbreaker at the hands of the Muir Mustangs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bears of the 73-64 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Burroughs saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Owen Everhart went 6 for 11 on his way to 16 points along with seven assists and five boards. The dominant performance gave Everhart a new career-high in assists. Evan Baker was another key player, putting up four points in addition to eight steals and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Burroughs was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive games.

Burroughs' defeat dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Muir, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-15.

Burroughs will head out to face off against Pasadena at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Pasadena's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests. As for Muir, they will be playing at home against Glendale at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Glendale is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.7 points per game this season.
