Baseball Game Preview: Slidell Tigers vs. Destrehan Wildcats

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Slidell Tigers challenge Destrehan Wildcats at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday. Slidell's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Destrehan's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Slidell is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering St. Paul's just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Wolves by a score of 4-3.

Troy Green spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, Slidell saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden Calamari, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Destrehan faced Northshore in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Destrehan walked away with an 8-4 win over Northshore. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Slidell's loss dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Destrehan, their win bumped their record up to 12-6.

Slidell took their victory against Destrehan in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 11-0. Will Slidell repeat their success, or does Destrehan have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
