Softball Recap: Clovis Takes a Loss

Clovis extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 3-14. They took a 12-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hobbs Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 18-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.

Evelyn Rico and Madysen Cushing stepped up to the plate in a big way. Rico went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Cushing went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Rico has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Amor Soto, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs.

As for Hobbs, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games.

On Hobbs' side, Saneiya Jackson made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Jackson has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sol Rangel, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Jaquelynn Fuentez was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Hobbs beat Clovis by a score of 14-1 later that day.
