Basketball Recap: Shields Panthers vs. Monroe County Tigers
The Shields Panthers lost a heartbreaker to the Monroe County Tigers when they met back in February of 2023, and they left with a heavy heart again on Thursday. Shields took a 68-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. Shields has not had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dante Leffall, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Jalance Kimbrough was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Shields has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-15 record this season. As for Monroe County, the win got them back to even at 11-11.
Shields won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Alabama (McKenzie is ranked 303rd, while the Panthers are ranked 286th). As for Monroe County, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Thomasville and the Tigers are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
