Baseball Game Preview: Braxton County Eagles vs. Doddridge County Bulldogs

Braxton County and Doddridge County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. Braxton County is taking a road trip to challenge Doddridge County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Braxton County is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Braxton County is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Summers County, who was ranked 24th at the time (Braxton County was ranked 21st). Braxton County fell 10-6 to Summers County on Saturday.

Joseph Wood was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Braxton County is 2-1 when Wood posts two or more runs, but 0-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Baldwin, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Doddridge County started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Philip Barbour. They took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Colts on Saturday. The contest marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

The loss snapped Doddridge County's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record. As for Braxton County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.

Braxton County might still be hurting after the 18-8 loss they got from Doddridge County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Braxton County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
