Football Recap: Tesoro Titans vs. Cypress Centurions
Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Tesoro). They blew past the Cypress Centurions, posting a 42-7 victory at home. Given the Titans' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Centurions are ranked 226th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Tesoro to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tanner Silber, who picked up 124 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Another rusher making a difference was Nic Brubaker, who rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
Another reason for the win was Tesoro's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 6.5 sacks. Luke Travis was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up threehimself. Those three sacks set a new season-high mark for him. Tesoro got some further help from Adam Achour: he made five total tackles (2.0 for loss) and snagged an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Tesoro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 332 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Tesoro now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Cypress, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tesoro will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Newport Harbor at 7:00 p.m. on October 4th. Cypress will also get a bit of a break before their next match: they'll face off against Tustin at 7:00 p.m. on October 4th. Tustin knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Cypress likes a good challenge.
