Basketball Recap: Mcauley Catholic Extends Winning Streak to Eight

McAuley Catholic had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.4 points) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They walked away with a 59-47 win over the Southwest Trojans. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Trojans are ranked 305th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

McAuley Catholic's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.4 points per game. As for Southwest, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

McAuley Catholic wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 50-28 loss against East Newton on the 28th. As for Southwest, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on McAuley Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on January 10th.
