Softball Recap: Greenbrier West Drops Season-High Score on Webster County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greenbrier West). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Webster County Highlanders a 21-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Cavaliers, who have now won six matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Brilee Redden was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Greenbrier West got a massive performance out of Madalyn Fields, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Fields has posted since April 4th. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Adkins, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple.

Greenbrier West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Greenbrier West and bumps their season record up to 11-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Webster County, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.

Looking ahead, Greenbrier West will head out on the road to square off against Nicholas County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Webster County, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Calhoun at 5:00 p.m.
