Softball Recap: Alhambra Sets Scoring Season-High Against San Gabriel

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Alhambra). They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over the San Gabriel Matadors on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Moors as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Alhambra got a great performance from Jayla Wagner as she tossed 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits.

On the hitting side, Alyssa Salazar was a standout: she scored two runs while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Evelyn Estrada was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3.

Alhambra always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Alhambra's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-11. As for San Gabriel, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.

Alhambra is taking a road trip to challenge Mark Keppel at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Aztecs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Moors' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for San Gabriel, they will challenge Schurr at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Matadors surely won't give up without a fight.
