Baseball Game Preview: San Lorenzo Grizzlies vs. Bethel Jaguars

The San Lorenzo Grizzlies will venture away from home to take on the Bethel Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Lorenzo will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.

While San Lorenzo didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Ygnacio Valley with a sharp 16-3 win on Friday. Fans of the Grizzlies have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Eric Ferriera was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Ferriera was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. Ferriera is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, David Pena was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rogelio Hernandez, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-3.

San Lorenzo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .512 or higher in six consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Bethel made sure to put some runs up on the board against Mare Island Tech Academy on Friday. Everything went Bethel's way against Mare Island Tech Academy as Bethel made off with an 11-1 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Jaguars as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

San Lorenzo pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.4 runs over those games. As for Bethel, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-4.

San Lorenzo took their victory against Bethel in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 9-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Lorenzo since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
