Northeast is 0-7 against East Lake since December of 2014 but things could change on Wednesday. The two teams will face off at 8:00 p.m. without much rest having both just played. One thing working in Northeast's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
Northeast came up short against Lakewood on Tuesday, falling 77-57. The game marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Despite the loss, Northeast saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Walter Brown went 5 for 9 on his way to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Damon Vines, who posted four points.
Meanwhile, East Lake put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Mitchell 65-38. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 25 points or more this season.
East Lake's win came from a few key players Northeast will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Anthony Brown, who went 9 of 13 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Bryant, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 10 points in addition to eight boards and seven blocks.
East Lake pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.9 points per game. As for Northeast, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Northeast and East Lake are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Northeast hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 63.2 points per game. However, it's not like East Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 64.2 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Northeast suffered a grim 91-71 defeat to East Lake when the teams last played back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of East Lake's Jeremiah Cooper, who went 6 of 10from beyond the arc on his way to 35 points and five steals. Now that Northeast knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
