Softball Recap: Broadwater Academy Takes a Loss

Broadwater Academy dropped their record down to 18-3 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators by a score of 2-0. Considering the last time the Vikings couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

Broadwater Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miranda Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 24-2 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games.

On Greenbrier Christian Academy's side, not much got past Haleigh Murphy, who gave up just four hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Broadwater Academy off the board. Murphy has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Katelyn Balka, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double.

Broadwater Academy and Greenbrier Christian Academy are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Vikings will take on Fuqua at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, they will square off against Tidewater Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12 runs per game on average), something the Gators will no doubt try to take advantage of.
