Recap: Escalon Cougars vs. Acalanes Dons
The Escalon Cougars and the Acalanes Dons squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Escalon Cougars had to settle for second. They were outmatched by the Dons on the road and fell 49-14. Escalon's loss signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
Despite the loss, Escalon had strong showings from Joshua Graham, who rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown, and Nate Krieger, who gained 74 total yards and a touchdown.
Acalanes' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sully Bailey led the charge by rushing for 33 yards and three touchdowns, while also throwing for 204 yards and a touchdown on only 13 passes. Acalanes also got a significant boost from Jack Miller, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.
Escalon's loss dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Acalanes, they have yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 10-4 record.
Escalon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Acalanes will take on Birmingham at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Birmingham is ranked 76th, while Acalanes is ranked 75th).
