League recap: Loss drops Crater out of state Top 25

Crater suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after losing to Sheldon. The Comets had been ranked 23rd, but fell to 30 following the defeat.

The Irish extended the longest winning streak in 6A Southwest this week by beating Crater, 48-0. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.

Aaron Downes was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 94 yards on 23 carries as Thurston bested North Medford. Teammate Corey Weick added to the ground attack by rushing for 26 yards.

Miller was the best wideout in the league this week as the Colts beat the Black Tornado. Miller tallied 10 receptions for 123 yards. Jayce Keller helped Thurston's passing attack out by catching four balls for 74 yards.

Taylor Alie put up the best numbers through the air as Lane Johnson's team topped John Beck's team. He finished with a total of 25 completions for 296 yards and four touchdowns. Alie's favorite target this week was Connor Strahm, who caught nine passes for 76 yards.

6-foot-0 quarterback Alie of the Irish is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1283. He has also thrown 15 touchdowns. On the ground, Thurston's Downes has rushed for 339 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Miller. The Thurston star has 27 catches for 380 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when South Medford takes on Grants Pass. The Panthers are currently in second, while the Cavemen are in fourth.

Grants Pass was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. John Musser's team vanquished South Eugene 52-7 earlier in the week.
