Football Recap: Raoul Jones' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Mitchell over Lewisburg

Football Recap: Mitchell Tigers vs. Lewisburg Patriots
Mitchell had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-1 to make it five. They took a hard 44-26 fall against the Lewisburg Patriots. Despite 87 more yards than the Patriots, the Tigers couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Raoul Jones, who threw for 224 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 145 yards on only 13 carries. Mitchell's leading receiver Jadorien Tate was Jones' top target yet again, picking up 124 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
As for Lewisburg, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering their considerable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 96th in Mississippi, while Mitchell is ranked 204th in Tennessee).
Jacob Manns was the offensive standout of the contest as he threw for 163 yards and three TDs. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in September of 2024. Jayden Snow helped Manns out on the ground, rushing for 56 yards and one touchdown, while also picking up 37 receiving yards.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mitchell will welcome Bluff City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The game will give the Tigers their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Lewisburg, they will host Olive Branch at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
