Basketball Recap: Heartland Lutheran Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Heartland Lutheran unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They came up short against the High Plains Storm on Thursday, falling 60-35. The Red Hornets just can't catch a break and have now endured five losses in a row dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Heartland Lutheran lost, don't look at Luke Olson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Colton Zehendner, who posted two points and five rebounds.

Brodey Spurling was a one-man wrecking crew for High Plains as he went 8 of 11 on his way to 18 points. The dominant performance also gave Spurling a new career-high in blocks (two). Ayden Hans was another key player, putting up 12 points and five rebounds.

Heartland Lutheran wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 62-19 defeat against Archangels Catholic on the 7th. As for High Plains, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 60-53 loss against Fullerton on the 7th.
