Baseball Recap: Riverside-Durham Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Riverside-Durham hadn't done well against Jordan recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Pirates walked away with a 9-6 win over the Falcons. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 12-2 victory the Falcons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Brayden Mottola made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Mottola was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kj Burton, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Lucas Setji, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Riverside-Durham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jordan only posted an OBP of .395.

Riverside-Durham's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Jordan, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 9-7.

Coincidentally, Riverside-Durham and Jordan will both be playing East Chapel Hill the next time they take the field. The Falcons will head out to face the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Pirates will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
