Basketball Game Preview: Montgomery Central Timberwolves vs. Union Pines Vikings

Montgomery Central is 1-7 against Union Pines since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Montgomery Central Timberwolves will head out on the road to take on the Union Pines Vikings at 6:00 p.m.

Montgomery Central is headed into Thursday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 21st straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They took a blow against Union Academy, falling 65-32. The Timberwolves were down 50-22 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Union Pines). They blew past Southern Alamance 87-47 on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Montgomery Central better keep an eye on Jaylen Kyle. He was instrumental in Union Pines' win, putting up 13 points along with eight assists and eight boards. Those eight assists gave Kyle a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Omari Walker, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Union Pines smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 34 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Union Pines pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.0 points per game. As for Montgomery Central, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.

Montgomery Central took a serious blow against Union Pines in their previous matchup back in November, falling 83-43. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Montgomery Central was down 47-27.
