Basketball Recap: Travis Wilks' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Grenada over Lake Cormorant

Grenada lost against Lake Cormorant back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Grenada Chargers took a 67-52 bruising from Lake Cormorant. While losing is never fun, the Chargers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Lake Cormorant are ranked 45th).

Grenada's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Travis Wilks, who went 7 for 15 on his way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zayion Cotton, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 11 points and eight rebounds.

Grenada dropped their record down to 2-13 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.6 points per game. As for Lake Cormorant, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grenada will host Coahoma County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Coahoma County will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Grenada surely won't give up without a fight. As for Lake Cormorant, they will take on Center Hill at 7:30 p.m. on January 10th.
