Basketball Preview: Deep Run Wildcats vs. Hermitage Panthers
The Deep Run Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Hermitage Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Deep Run is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.
On Friday, Deep Run was able to grind out a solid victory over the Eagles, taking the game 55-43.
Meanwhile, Hermitage lost to the Jaguars at home by a decisive 66-47 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, Hermitage can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Jaguars are ranked 45th).
Hermitage might have lost, but man, Breyona Robinson was a machine: she scored 17 points along with eight assists and five steals. It was the first time this season that Robinson posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Tori Woodley, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Deep Run's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-6. As for Hermitage, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.
Deep Run didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Panthers in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 52-46 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Deep Run since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
