Softball Game Preview: Teays Valley Vikings vs. Franklin Heights Falcons

The Teays Valley Vikings will challenge the Franklin Heights Falcons at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Teays Valley's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Franklin Heights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Friday, Teays Valley came up short against Olentangy Liberty and fell 7-3.

Meanwhile, Franklin Heights got the win against Mifflin on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Falcons.

Calaya Salley made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Salley was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Gracie Cornell was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Lehman, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Franklin Heights always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Franklin Heights' win bumped their record up to 5-17. As for Teays Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 20-5.

Everything went Teays Valley's way against Franklin Heights in their previous meeting back in May of 2015, as Teays Valley made off with an 11-1 victory. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
