Basketball Game Preview: South Putnam Eagles vs. South Vermillion Wildcats

The South Putnam Eagles will challenge the South Vermillion Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Putnam has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight losses, while South Vermillion will come in with five straight victories.

Last Friday, South Putnam was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 63-57 to Indian Creek. The defeat came about despite the Eagles having been up 20 in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, South Vermillion beat Sullivan 60-56 on Tuesday.

South Putnam better keep an eye on Aden Wallace. He was instrumental in South Vermillion's win, going 6-for-10 from beyond the arc on his way to 28 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Wallace has scored at least a third of South Vermillion's points. Trevor Anderson was another key player, putting up 11 points.

South Vermillion pushed their record up to 12-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.5 points over those games. As for South Putnam, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.

South Putnam came up short against South Vermillion in their previous matchup back in December of 2015, falling 65-61. Can South Putnam avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
