Softball Recap: Lafayette Takes a Loss

Lafayette and Madison County squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Lafayette had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Cowboys by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Hornets have suffered against the Cowboys since February 25, 2020.

Khloe Crotts was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Crotts wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Clara Knight, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Lafayette has also been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season. As for Madison County, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-1.

Lafayette does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Madison County, they will be playing at home against Union County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cowboys are on a five-game streak of home wins, the Fightin' Tigers a seven-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
