Baseball Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short

Centennial lost against Independence back in May of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Cougars fell 11-8 to the Eagles.

Cooper Riggs was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Eli Wells and Ben Gant did some serious damage despite the final result: Wells scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5, while Gant scored two runs while going 2-for-5. Ethan Malinowski was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Centennial has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. As for Independence, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season.

While Centennial had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
