Softball Game Preview: Newton Falls Tigers vs. Crestview Rebels

Newton Falls is 2-7 against Crestview since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Newton Falls will be playing at home against Crestview at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Newton Falls is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Waterloo. Newton Falls came out on top in a nail-biter against Waterloo on Monday, sneaking past 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won three in a row.

Kylee Lance spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Madalyn Knight, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Crestview never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against Aquinas as Crestview made off with a 22-0 victory.

Emma Snyder was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Snyder was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Chloe Stoops was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Brenna Figley, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Crestview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aquinas only posted a batting average of .067.
