Softball Recap: Derby Wins Going Away Against Crosby

Derby's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 15-3 margin over the Crosby Bulldogs. The high-scoring effort was just what the Red Raiders needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Kaelyn DiMartino was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Derby let Alex Davis and Kiera Boyles run wild. Davis scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Boyles scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those hits marked the first that Davis got this season. Brianna Fernandez was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Derby kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory got Derby back to even at 2-2. As for Crosby, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Derby is set to take on their familiar foe Wolcott at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Crosby will challenge rival Woodland Regional at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
