Baseball Recap: Odessa Comes Up Short

Odessa extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 12-11 in the process. They came up short against the Marshall Owls, falling 10-4. That's two games in a row now that the Bulldogs have lost by exactly six runs.

As for Marshall, their victory ended a 12-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-16. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

For Marshall's part, Brock Marshall was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Marshall was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Thompson, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Myer Klinge was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Odessa will head out to face off against St. Michael the Archangel at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Guardians have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches. As for Marshall, they will face off against Lafayette County at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Huskers' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Owls' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
