Saturday, 1 p.m. Central timeWhy it's big: Loyola Academy's newly minted status among teams ranked in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 will be put to the test Saturday in this Class 8A state quarterfinal round game.
Homewood-Flosmoor (10-1) was ranked No. 1 in Illinois until an upset loss to Bolingbrook in the regular-season finale. The Vikings finished runner-up at state last season.
Loyola Academy (11-0) has run roughshod over the Chicago Catholic League and the rest of the teams on its schedule so far. The Ramblers blanked defending champion Stevenson, 49-0, last week and have won every game this season by at least 24 points.
Names to watch: Homewood-Flossmoor is a run-first offense but still gets plenty of big plays out of senior receiver
Kendric Pryor. He's a three-star prospect committed to Wisconsin.
Loyola is an extremely physical team that features three players who've committed to FBS colleges. The group includes Notre Dame-bound long snapper/linebacker
John Shannon and Northwestern pledge
Eric Eshoo at tight end.
