Basketball Recap: Tok Takes a Loss

Tok was the 76-61 winner over Fort Yukon when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Tok Wolverines were dealt a 71-40 loss at the hands of the Fort Yukon Eagles on Friday.

Several Wolverines players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Chairo Espinosa, who posted 15 points along with six rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Marvin Captain, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Tok smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Riley Strom was a one-man wrecking crew for Fort Yukon as he had 31 points. Ben Carroll was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Tok's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Fort Yukon, they moved to 1-1 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Tok will head out to challenge Cordova on Friday. Tok is facing Cordova at the right time seeing as Cordova is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Fort Yukon, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 66-55 loss against Minto on the 4th.
