Baseball Recap: Esperanza Preparatory Academy Comes Up Short

Esperanza Preparatory Academy extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They lost 19-2 to the Baruch College Blue Devils Bearcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 15-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2019.

As for Baruch College, the victory got them back to even at 2-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Baruch College's part, Ari Katz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Katz was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

In other batting news, Aidan Silberstein was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and three runs. Nesha Jovic was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with six stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

Coming up, Esperanza Preparatory Academy will square off against Roosevelt at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Baruch College, they will challenge Chelsea at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
