Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Jackson South Side

If South Gibson wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Jackson South Side, they should've done a better job of containing Jaidynn Askins. The Jackson South Side Hawks secured a 50-44 W over the South Gibson Hornets on Saturday thanks in part to Askins, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 23 points in addition to five boards and five steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Aydison Dilworth, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 12 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in steals.

Despite the loss, South Gibson saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jade Reed went 7 of 8 on her way to 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Serenity Johnson, who posted eight points.

The win was the fourth in a row for Jackson South Side, bringing their record for this year to 10-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 32 points. As for South Gibson, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-3.

Jackson South Side didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 59-43 victory against Jackson Christian on the 30th. As for South Gibson, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-44 win against Fayette Ware on the 30th.
