Baseball Game Preview: Porter Cowboys vs. Harlingen South Hawks

The Porter Cowboys will take on the Harlingen South Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Porter has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with three straight defeats, while Harlingen South will come in with four straight victories.

Porter lost 11-4 to Weslaco East on Friday.

Meanwhile, Harlingen South won against Donna on Friday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Hawks had just enough and edged out Harlingen 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted against the Cardinals since April 16, 2019.

Josh Ruiz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, Nick Garza was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Olivares, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Harlingen South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in March.

Harlingen South pushed their record up to 18-5 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Porter, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.
