Basketball Recap: Yorktown's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Yorktown proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 21) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-55 win over the Greenfield-Central Cougars. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since December 9, 2023.

Yorktown's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Conklin, who went 8 of 17 en route to 23 points and three steals. Those 23 points gave Conklin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexis Fields, who went 6 for 12 on her way to 14 points and eight boards.

Greenfield-Central's loss came despite strong showings from Brooklyn Mcconnell and Madison Sonsini. Mcconnell went 6 of 11 en route to 18 points and five steals, while Sonsini went 7 for 14 on her way to 21 points and five rebounds. Chaney Brown was another key player, putting up nine points and seven boards.

The victory (which was Yorktown's third in a row) raised their record to 14-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Greenfield-Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yorktown will venture away from home to take on New Palestine at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Yorktown is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season. As for Greenfield-Central, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Greenfield-Central Cougars duke it out with the Southport Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
