Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Weiser

Weiser proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 16) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Skyline Grizzlies 9-8. Winning may never get old, but the Wolverines sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Madi Janicek spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Sophia Shirts was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Alli Navarrete was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three runs and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Weiser kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.

Weiser's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Skyline, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Coming up, Weiser is taking a road trip to challenge Payette at 6:00 p.m. on the 30th. As for Skyline, they will look to defend their home field on the 30th against Wood River at 3:00 p.m. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wolverines have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
