Softball Recap: Woodrow Wilson Comes Up Short

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Woodrow Wilson nor Greenbrier East made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Flying Eagles fell 4-1 to the Spartans. The Flying Eagles have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.

Aubrey Smallwood spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Woodrow Wilson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hadley Reott, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run.

Woodrow Wilson's loss dropped their record down to 11-13. As for Greenbrier East, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.

Woodrow Wilson will head out to take on Logan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last. As for Greenbrier East, they will take on Independence at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
