Preview: First Flight Nighthawks vs. Holmes Aces
Two dominant players in Aubrey Phanton and Chloe Chappell are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The First Flight Nighthawks will head out on the road to challenge the Holmes Aces at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. First Flight's defense has only allowed 28.9 points per game this season, so Holmes' offense will have their work cut out for them.
First Flight suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They were dealt a 55-28 loss at the hands of Hertford County. First Flight has not had much luck with Hertford County recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the defeat, First Flight got a solid performance out of Phanton, who scored nine points along with 13 rebounds and three blocks. Phanton has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played.
Even though they lost, First Flight smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hertford County only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Holmes posted their closest victory yet this season on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 42-39 win over Currituck County. The win was just what Holmes needed coming off of a 54-19 defeat in their prior matchup.
First Flight's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Holmes, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
First Flight ended up a good deal behind Holmes in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, losing 40-25. Can First Flight avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
