Preview: Jarrell Cougars vs. Burnet Bulldogs
The Jarrell Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Burnet Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Jarrell strolled past Lago Vista with points to spare, taking the game 51-35. Given Jarrell's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 399th, while Lago Vista is ranked 826th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jarrell found their leader in underclassman Aniya Taylor, who scored 22 points along with three steals. Taylor is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last 19 games she's played. Jasmine Benavidez was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Meanwhile, Burnet waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 50-38 victory over Lampasas.
Jarrell has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season. As for Burnet, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-7.
Jarrell was dealt a bruising 57-28 loss at the hands of Burnet in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Can Jarrell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
